Details about the Event

In this talk, Toko-pa will offer a deep dive into the magical workings of metaphor. Although we think of metaphor as a literary embellishment, it is actually our mother tongue. It is the body’s own language, and precedes the spoken word. Metaphor works by bringing two truths together so they can exchange ideas - the result of which is wisdom. In revealing a meaningful connection between contexts, metaphor liberates us from the isolation of prosaic thinking, catalyzing psychic movement. Harvesting fresh metaphors not only changes how we experience the world but how we, in turn, shape our future.

“Metaphor is the vocabulary of the body, a language of symbols that serves to restore connectedness to the world.” ~ Toko-pa Turner
