JUNGIAN LECTURE: C.G. Jung & James Hillman: The Ideas and Images that Shape Depth Psychology

by Charles Morse, MA, MSc

“As the ego does not represent the whole psyche, so the Western mind cannot speak for the whole world.”  Hillman, Philosophical Intimations

C.G. Jung and James Hillman were two brilliant, iconoclastic, sometimes controversial figures of 20th century psychology who broke with tradition and forged their own paths. In this lecture, we discuss how Hillman’s ideas diverged from those of his mentor, Jung. Hillman’s intellectual journey offers a fascinating case study of the tensions and archetypal dynamics that arise in the wake of the founding figures of Jung’s originality.
